What attracted you to vet medicine?

I was born and raised in New York State. As a kid, besides dogs and cats, I had a wide variety of pets, including ferrets, hedgehogs, rabbits, rats, and hamsters. By the age of 7, I knew I wanted to help animals. I started volunteering at an animal hospital as soon as I was old enough. My love for the profession developed as I watched vets not only help the animals but their families as well. I went to college at the University of Connecticut in 2011 and received my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Tennessee in 2015.

What do you love most about your profession?

The bond between pet and owner is an amazing and important relationship, and it needs to be protected. This is the reason why a solid relationship between a vet and the pet owner is so important. Not only to ensure that their pet receives the best medicine, but to nurture the bond between the pet and the family. These relationships are developed through open communication and education.

Do you have any special interests?

I am Fear Free certified, and I work very hard to provide a fear-free environment to my patients.  I often examine my patients on the floor, or in my lap. I make a point of feeding pets whichever tasty treat they like most. I always strive to take my time with each pet, listen to all of pet owners’ concerns, and create a treatment plan that will help both the pet and their family.

Do you have others areas of vet medicine you love?

I love exotic animal medicine and I am the “exotics vet” at Brodheadsville. I treat “pocket pets” (rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, hedgehogs and other small loveable mammals) and some reptiles (lizards such as geckos and bearded dragons). I also enjoy weight management, dental care and geriatric care. I firmly believe that preventive medicine is the best medicine!

What are your hobbies?

I love spending time with my two Dobermans, Peyton and Colt, and my two cats, Bella and Duke. Other hobbies include doing puzzles, making candles, and spending time with my family.
